Big Bad Bison Review

There is no shortage of North American animal slots out there from before, and Big Time Gaming has decided to give Big Bad Bison a somewhat archaic appearance that reminded us of their instant classic Bonanza Megaways. We’re unsure how intended this is, however, as their default style and interface hasn’t changed all that much over the years. You get a decent set of animal symbols on the dynamic Megaways grid, set against a massive desert mountain in the backdrop.

It would be more fun if the Aussie developer made a similar game inspired by the wildlife and nature of their own country instead, as there aren’t too many kangaroo and Crocodile Dundee-inspired releases out there. Anyway, you get multiplier wilds up to x5 in all stages, and the bonus round is all about upgrading the minimum Megaways level which also gives you extra spins. The 67,640x potential seems far-fetched to be honest, and transparency around the max win hit rate of BTG games would be appreciated at this point.

Big Bad Bison Slot Features

The premium animal symbols pay between 1.5 and 25 x your stake for 6 of a kind wins, and the Bison is, of course, the top-tier symbol. Wild symbols step in for any pay symbol to help complete and/or improve wins, and wilds also come with multipliers up to x5. Each wild multiplier is applied if more than one is part of the same win, and wilds can appear on reels 2 to 5 only.

The Bonus Round triggers from 3 scatters in view, and this gives you 12 free spins.

Each time you land 2 scatters on the same free spin you get +4 extra spins, and in addition the number of minimum win ways levels up one notch on the ladder seen on the left. The minimum number of win ways is 64 by default, and it can increase to 729, 4,096, 15,625, 46,656, or 117,649 Megaways per free spin.

The Win Exchange feature is an option you may get if you win 25 to 50+ x your stake, and you can use the winnings to buy or gamble for 12 free spins. This feature is not available in all jurisdictions, however, and certainly not in the UK.

The gamble is available if you win 25-49x your stake, and it plays out on a wheel with red and green segments. Landing on the red segment means you lose your winnings. Non-UK players can also purchase the bonus round directly for 50x the stake.

Review Summary

Even at first glance Big Bad Bison comes across as below par for a developer like Big Time Gaming.

Big Bad Bison Slot Screenshot 7

There was something about the static backdrop that gave us an amateurish vibe, and the glossy royal symbols have been in use since the Bonanza Megaways glory days. The standard setup, user interface, and visuals from BTG is long overdue for a serious makeover, and including a turbo spins option is also a good idea.

The soundtrack is enjoyable though, and not least the Ghost Riders In The Sky instrumental you get in the bonus round. You get multiplier wilds in all stages, but these are usually few and far between, and many times you get the x1 multiplier anyway. The 50x bonus buy tells you all you need to know about the average win, although 67,640x your stake is theoretically possible. Climbing the minimum win ways ladder is far from easy as well, and we imagine you need to get close to the top to do serious damage.

Pros

  • Up to 117,649 Megaways
  • Up to x5 multiplier wilds
  • FS w/ minimum Megaways ladder
  • Win up to 67,640x your stake
  • RTP of 96.58 % (no RTP ranges)

Cons

  • 50x Bonus Buy reveals low average wins
