Fruit Combinator Review

One fruit slot a day keeps the cravings at bay, as they say, but Fruit Combinator is not your regular, classic fruit machine installment. Reel Play has basically made a follow-up release to their somewhat eccentric and underrated Professor Clank’s Combinator, and you will definitely recognize the elaborate winning streak system if you’ve tried the first game. The visuals are more clean, colorful, and simple in this sequel though, which may help with mainstream appeal.

The base game is all about removing non-winning symbols and accumulating winning symbols, and you get symbol morphing, boosting, and indefinite new symbol drops to help build what can become a solid payout. Instant scatter prizes and jackpots up to 2,000x your stake are added to the mix in the bonus round, and you can win up to 6,224x your stake overall. This potential is unusually high for a low volatility game, and we found this to be a solid and enjoyable follow-up release from Reel Play.

Fruit Combinator Slot Features

The premium fruit symbols pay between 1.2 and 10 x your stake for 6 of a kind wins, and you can land Wild symbols on reels 2 to 5 only. Wilds step in for pay symbols to help complete and/or improve wins, but they hold no value of their own in this game. Non-winning symbols are removed when you land a win, and the winning symbols drop to the bottom of the grid.

This is called the Explosion part of the winning streak mechanic, as the non-winning symbols explode as they are removed.

Fruit Combinator Slot Gameplay

If you landed a win involving more than one symbol type, all symbol types at the bottom of the grid morph into the present symbol type of the highest value. This is the Morphing part of the winning streak mechanic, and scatters are never removed in the sequence. Also, neither wilds nor scatters morph.

The third part of the winning streak mechanic is called the Booster, and it comes into play if the previous winning symbols do not form another win after the initial explosion and morphing. New matching symbols are then added to help you out in that regard.

After the Booster has done its thing, the Drops feature is next. A new symbol is then dropped onto the top of all reels with less than 5 symbols stacked.

Non-matching symbols explode, and the same goes for symbols that do not add to the win.

Scatters are never removed, and wilds that take part in a win will also not be removed. The Drop feature goes on as long as at least one new symbol is added to the win, and the total win is paid after the final drop.

You need to land or accumulate at least 3 scatters in the same drop sequence to trigger the Bonus Round, and you get a cash prize per triggering scatter. You also get 3 free spins for starters, and the free spins tally resets to 3 each time you land a new scatter prize during the feature.

The scatters come with prizes between 1x and 100x, and the prize is paid per scatter that lands. They can also land with jackpot prizes of 10x, 50x, 250x, or 2,000x your stake, and these are known as the Mini, Minor, Major, and Grand jackpots, respectively.

The 200 Spins Fruit Combinator Slot Experience

You get to see one winning sequence play out in the base game, and it starts at 0:40 into the 2:44-minute highlights video. This sequence also landed us 3 scatters, and the free spins bonus round triggers at the 1-minute mark. You can see for yourself how we fared by hitting the play button below.

Review Summary

The steampunk theme in Reel Play’s predecessor release, Professor Clank’s Combinator, was perhaps somewhat of an acquired taste. The fruit theme should be more familiar and dear to most players, but also more generic and common, of course. Either way, Fruit Combinator is not your ordinary fruit machine, as the base game is kept interesting by the whole explosion, morphing, booster, and drops sequence that triggers each time you win.

It’s a lot more engaging than simply spinning reels and waiting for the bonus round to trigger, which is the case with so many fruit slots (if, indeed, they come with a bonus round at all).

The bonus round has been improved in this follow-up release, at least in our humble opinion, as you now get regular wins in addition to the scatter prizes and jackpots. The higher win cap in Clank’s Combinator is due to the gamble feature, which has been dropped in this release, but the 6,224x potential in Fruit Combinator is more than solid enough to make this an attractive prospect.

Pros

  • Explosion, morphing, booster, and drops
  • Small wins can turn big via this system
  • FS w/ added scatter prizes up to 2,000x
  • Win up to 6,224x your stake

Cons

  • Beware of adjustable RTP ranges
