Monopoly Live Game Review
Not only did Monopoly Live win the Gaming Intelligence Award for Best Game in 2019, but Evolution also landed the prestigious EGR Award for Game of the Year. The first time we saw the Augmented Reality (AR) version of Mr Monopoly do his live studio antics, and step into the stunning 3D-animated city with the classic board game smack in the middle, we were basically sold.
This live game takes the already popular Dream Catcher to a whole new level, and any fan of the physical game will be filled with awe the first time the camera takes you on a sweeping tour around the board. The surrounding city is brimming with life, and it’s almost like you wish Mr Monopoly guy would step off the board for just a minute, and take a stroll down main street.

The massive Dream Catcher-inspired Monopoly Wheel of Fortune comes with 54 segments. Each segment is separated by pins that help slow down the Wheel, and it will eventually come to a grinding halt with one segment as the winner.

Before the live host spins the Money Wheel however, you will choose between 4 different numbers to bet on. These are numbers 1, 2, 5 and 10, and they pay the same amount as the number (ie. 1x, 2x, 5x and 10x). You can also bet on 2 different variations of the bonus game, one with 2 rolls and another option with 4 rolls.
You have 12 seconds to place your bets up front, and all bets are off a few seconds after the Money Wheel starts spinning.
You can place bets on multiple numbers, and/or bonus games, or all of them if you wish. 48 of the equally sized Wheel segments are numbers, while you also have 2 Chance segments and 4 Bonus Roll segments. You can go with the Frequent Feature bonus round, and this simply means that you will benefit from more frequent Shooting Wilds and Valkyrie Undercover symbol transformations.
Landing on the Chance segments means that a Chance card will be drawn. This will either award an instant cash prize, or a multiplier will upgrade all the Money Wheel values. If the latter is the case, the Wheel is spun again with all the bets in place. You can get up to a 10x multiplier of the Wheel numbers this way, and if you get a new multiplier on the extra spin, it will multiply with the previous multiplier.
The Roll the Dice Board Game Bonus Round
The best case scenario however, happens if the multiplier is followed by the Roll Bonus Game.
This is where the real fun starts. You’ll see the augmented reality Mr Monopoly guy wander off the live studio. He then emerges to step onto the classic monopoly board surrounded by an amazing 3D city with a fairground in the middle. You will first be taken for a sweeping tour around the board, as Mr Monopoly assigns multipliers to the different board positions. The default multiplier values range from 1x to 100x, with Mayfair as the most lucrative property. However, if you had a 10x multiplier card from before, for example, the starting values are 10x to 1,000x around the board.
No matter if you have a multiplier from the chance card from before, or not, Mr Monopoly Man will always assign random multipliers up to 10x to certain properties before the bonus game starts. Combine that with a multiplier card value of 10x, and things could get really interesting with properties worth up to 10,000x your stake.
You get either 2 rolls or 4 rolls, depending on which bonus game version you triggered. You will get 1 extra dice roll whenever you roll a double (ie. 5 and 5, for example).
As you roll the dice, Mr Monopoly will move around the board accordingly, and you win whatever property multiplier he lands on. Of course, the further you go from the starting position, the more valuable the properties will be.If Mr Monopoly manages to go a full round around the board, all the property values will be doubled. Mr Monopoly can land on a Chance Card and Community Chest also, and this can award you cash prizes. However, this can also reduce your current winnings from the bonus game.
If you land on income tax or super tax, you will lose 10 % or 20 % of your winnings, respectively. What you really want to avoid is going to jail. You will then be stuck, and have to roll doubles to get out.
Since you have so few rolls to start with (2 or 4 in total), this can break your whole bonus round if you’re unlucky.Review Summary
Pretty much everyone has a nostalgic relationship to the classic Monopoly board game, at least if you grew up before video games took over completely. Evolution has won multiple prizes for Best Game with Monopoly Live, including EGR Operators Award for game of the year 2019. This is well deserved in our view, as this is truly innovative live gaming at its very best.
The regular “base game” is perhaps not all that exciting, but the Roll Bonus Game is simply stunning. Having Mr Monopoly as an animated AR figure in-studio with the live host is also something brand new, and the bonus game offers massive payouts up to £500,000. Of course, the RTP and volatility will depend on your bet here, and certain bets come with theoretical returns as low as 91.30 %.
Pros
- Animated AR-version of Mr Monopoly Man live in studio
- Amazing 3D-animated board game bonus round
- Place bets between 10p and £2,500
- Win up to 10,000x or more (capped at £500,000)
Cons
- The RTP ranges from 91.3 % to 93.9 % for most bet options
If you love Monopoly Live you should also try:
Dream Catcher - is the original template this Monopoly version is based upon. Dream Catcher is much simpler however, and it comes with 2x and 7x multiplier segments on the Money Wheel. You can still win up to a capped max win of £500,000 though, which is solid.
Monopoly Megaways - is a grand slot version to check out, and it comes with cascading wins and up to 117,649 win ways.
The Reel Adventure bonus game mimics the board game, and you can win up to 15,000x via the unlimited progressive multiplier in the bonus round.Slingo Monopoly - is a highly entertaining hybrid between bingo and slots, and the Monopoly theme really shines here too. You move around the board to win cash prizes and other bonus features here, but the max win potential is not even close to what the live game at hand offers.

Monopoly Live Slot FAQs
What is the RTP of Monopoly Live slot?
The game’s payout percentage varies between 91.3 % and 96.23 %, depending on how you bet. You get the highest returns from placing your bets on the numbers 2 and 10, while the rest of the options are below 94 %.
How volatile is Monopoly Live?
The volatility also varies according to how you bet. Obviously, betting on 1 (22 of 54 segments) is a lower volatility option than betting on the bonus game ((3 or 1) of 54 segments). However, the payouts from the bonus game can be potentially massive, while the number 1 gives you only 1x your stake.
What is the biggest win possible?
The multipliers in the roll bonus game can grow into 10,000x or more, but the max win is capped at £500,000.
How does the Roll Bonus Game work?
You can trigger it with either 2 rolls (3 wheel segments) or 4 rolls (1 wheel segment). The AR-animated Mr Monopoly walks from the studio and into a 3D city with the board game in the middle. Multiplier values are assigned to the different properties, and you roll dice to move Mr Monopoly Man around to cash in.
Can I play Monopoly Live for free?
No, you cannot play any demo version of Monopoly Live, as is the case with all live games. However, you can check out the live action without placing any bets if you wish.
