Pile Em Up Slot Review, Demo Play, Payout, Free Spins & Bonuses

Pile 'Em Up is a highly volatile video game-style slot from Snowborn Games (power by Microgaming), and it plays out on 5x3 reels with 20 paylines. Coin values are collected by the magnet symbol, and potentially boosted by an accumulating multiplier. The coin collect multiplier system plays a central part in both bonus rounds also, and you can win up to 7,500x your stake. Our full review is available below the free demo game.

Pile 'Em Up Review

We’ve followed Snowborn Games since they first started, and we’re impressed by the metamorphosis they’ve gone through as a developer. The visual style in Pile 'Em Up is similar to Cat Clans, but with more than a tip of the hat to the Mario Bros franchise. You’re in for a colorful, charming fruit and gemstone-infused adventure, topped off by a dash of Nintendo nostalgia.

Don’t be fooled by the lighthearted wrapping though, as this is a volatile installment that packs a punch to the tune of 7,500x your stake. Coins will “pile up” in all stages of the game, including the base game, the bonus round and the hold-and-spin style feature, and the Coin Booster multiplier will also increase and be carried over into either of the features. Larger wins can come also in the base game, so this is a well-balanced release for sure.

Pile 'Em Up Slot Features

The premium gemstone symbols pay between 12 and 20 x your stake for 5 of a kind wins, and the Wild symbol pays 111x your stake for the same. Of course, the Wild also steps in for regular pay symbols to help complete wins, and it can appear on all 5 reels.

The Coin Booster multiplier starts at x1, and it increases by +1 per 1UP symbol you land. It can go as high as x10, and it does not reset unless you change your bet level.

The multiplier is saved between bet levels though, but it does not affect regular pay symbol wins.

The Coin symbols land with values between 0.2x and 50x your stake, but you need to land a Magnet Collect symbol at the same time to win anything from them. When the Magnet collects the coin values, the sum is boosted by whatever Coin Booster multiplier you’ve racked up. The multiplier resets to x1 for that bet level after it’s been used.

The Bonus Round triggers when 3 flower scatters land on reels 1, 3 and 5, and this awards 9 free spins and a scatter payout worth 1.5x your stake. The Coin Booster multiplier you’ve achieved is carried over, and you win +3 or +9 extra spins when you land 2 or 3 scatters during the bonus round, respectively. All coin symbols are collected by the Coin Respin counter, and you get a chance to win the sum total of the coins, boosted by the multiplier, when the bonus round is over.

Purple Heart symbols are collected per reel, and when you have collected 1 heart per reel the Heart Bonus is activated.

The Coin Booster multiplier is once again carried over, and this hold-and-win style feature starts you out with 3 spins. The spin tally resets when you land a non-blank symbol on the grid, and Coin symbols become sticky.

The feature ends when you either run out of spins, or fill the grid with coin symbols, and the latter upgrades all coins to the maximum value of 50x your stake. No matter how the feature ends, the total coin value you’ve racked up will be boosted by the Coin Booster multiplier. On that note, you can land 1UP symbols also during the feature, and these reset the spin tally without becoming sticky.

Review Summary

Snowborn seems to have found their voice with the brightly-colored ‘video game’ visual style we’ve seen from them lately, or at least it’s an expression that comes across as unique and recognizable. Pile 'Em Up is clearly inspired by Nintendo’s Mario Bros though, with the pipes and all, and it’s a neat little game that looks innocent enough on the surface. It’s got teeth underneath it all though, and a solid 7,500x potential to boot.

The level-up multiplier feature is clever, and it rewards loyal players with what can amount to pretty solid base game payouts. The Coin Respin system ends the bonus round on a potential high note, but it can also provide an anti-climax.

Still, it keeps the tension high, and a full screen in the Heart Bonus pays 750x before any multiplier boost. There’s a lot to like in Pile 'Em Up, Nintendo nostalgia included, and it’s nice to see a budding developer starting to spread their wings.
