We hardly had time to grow tired of the original game before Red Tiger decided to launch the Megaways version. Being fans of the first game, we really don’t mind having a more powerful engine to try our luck with. However, there are some “Red Tigerish” flaws in the math model here. First of all, you need to beware of customizable RTP ranges, as usual from this developer.

Another thing is the rather low max bet level of only £4 per spin. This will hardly please hardcore gamblers and high rollers. It also effectively puts a cap on the max payout that’s far lower than what’s on offer from most Megaways engine slots out there. The only other Megaways book slot, Legacy of Ra Megaways, offers 50,000x your stake in comparison, and you can still play with up to £100 per spin.

Both games offer the same amount of win ways however, and getting expanded symbols also in the base game is certainly a twist worthy of attention. It does change the appeal of the game somewhat, compared to the regular book slots. We like how this balances out everything, and it’s certainly refreshing to have an engaging base game instead of just grinding along to get to the bonus round.

As in the original game, you will benefit from expanding symbols both in the base game and during the bonus round here. You will see a bar with all the symbols above the reels, and winning symbols are highlighted as “golden” on this bar.

Any instances of the golden symbols on the following spin will expand to cover the whole reel (if you land at least 3 on different reels). The expanded symbols don’t need to be adjacent to win, and landing more than one golden symbol means they take turns to expand with separate win calculations. The golden symbols last only for 1 spin in the base game.

The treasure chest scatter can land on any reel, and you need at least 3 anywhere to trigger the free spins bonus round.

It’s called the Lucky Round here, and you start by spinning a bonus wheel that will give you between 4 and 16 free spins (or “dream spins” as they are called in-game). You get 4 extra spins per scatter you landed above the minimum of 3, and all golden symbols you get stay that way for the duration of the feature.

The Megaways version of Ali Baba's Luck brings nothing new to the table in terms of features. Fans of the original game can now try their luck on a steroid injected beast instead. Perhaps the Megaways label will help give Red Tiger’s revolutionary twist a mainstream boost. It’s only the second book type slot to get the Megaways treatment, after all.

Blueprint was first with their Legacy of Ra Megaways, which offers a higher potential. We like getting expanding symbols also in the base game, as this offers far more entertaining and balanced gameplay.

We get that symbol values are a bit lower than other book slots because of this, but you can’t really complain with an above 20,000x potential (high rollers are the exception however, as the max bet of £4 is just unnecessary low).
