Crystal Mirror Review

There is no doubt that a classic hit game like Twin Spin has been a source of inspiration for Red Tiger when they came up with the idea for Crystal Mirror. However, we do not consider this a copycat game in any way, shape or form. It resembles Twin Spin mostly because of the synced reels feature, but in Crystal Mirror all 6 reels are synced via an invisible mirror in the middle. This means that reels 1, 2 and 3 are synced with reels 6, 5 and 4 on every single spin, and things can get quite interesting when you throw the stacked nudging wilds into the mix.

The mirroring effect is more than “smoke and mirrors” here, as you will never land only one single stacked wild. They will come in synchronized pairs, and this high value symbol can land you some nice payouts both in the base game and during the bonus round. Speaking of, this game comes with a max win potential of 5,240x your stake, which is around 5x of what Twin Spin has to offer. Visually, the game is decent enough, and most of the symbols are crowns with or without gemstones of different colors.

The volatility is high, as you can probably imagine, and it took us a while to trigger the bonus round in our 200 spins test session. Still, wins up to 500x are possible also in the base game, and the free spins round comes with stacked wilds that become frozen in place for the duration of the feature. We quite enjoyed this game, in all its simplistic splendor, and the math model and features makes this a stronger game than Twin Spin in our humble opinion. Not that the two games are direct competitors in that sense, but it’s the closest mainstream game with a somewhat similar defining feature.

Crystal Mirror

What are the bonus features?

The defining feature of Crystal Mirror slot is, as we’ve mentioned above, the Mirror Reels feature. The reels are basically split down the middle, so that the outermost reels 1 and 6 will always land the same symbols. The same goes for reels 2 and 5 and reels 3 and 4.

In other words, it’s like putting the 3 first reels in front of a mirror, and then the final 3 reels consist of the reflection they make in the mirror.

The mirroring feature is default here, and applies to all spins. This, of course, will make sure that you land a lot of matching symbols at all times, and filling the first 3 reels with matching symbols effectively means that the whole screen gets filled with them. Also lookout for the big purple vial, as this is the wild symbol in this game.

The wild symbols are large enough to cover all 4 reel positions, and they will also nudge in place to do just that whenever they land. Because of the mirror effect, you will always land at least 2 stacked wilds at the same time in this game. The wild symbol is also the highest paying symbol by far in Crystal Mirror, and pays 25x for 6 on a payline. This means that you win 500x your stake if you fill the screen with nothing but wilds.

Free spins in Crystal Mirror

The free spins bonus round is the highlight here, and you trigger it by landing either 4 or 6 scatters on the same spin. The usual minimum of 3 scatters is not possible due to the mirror effect, and neither is 5 scatters for the same reason. The scatter symbol simply says “free spins”, and you get either 10 or 15 spins depending on how many scatters you land together.

The only real difference between the base game and the bonus round, is that you’ll benefit from sticky stacked wilds during the free spins feature.

The mirrored pair of wilds you land will nudge in place to fill the entire reels, and then they will remain in place for the duration of the feature. This, of course, increases your chances for bigger wins and also for filling the screen with nothing but wilds.

How to play

The game interface is simple enough, per usual from Red Tiger, and it occupies very little space on the screen. If you have not played all that many online slots before, you can safely proceed to read this section. Here we’ll walk you through everything important about how to play Crystal Mirror slot. Experienced players might wanna skim through this part though, or skip to the next section instead.

You can start by setting your bet level via the stake button down in the left-hand side corner. The default stake is £2 per spin with Red Tiger games for some reason, as a more natural default would have been £1 per spin.

Anyway, you can choose from a bet range of 10p to £20 per spin, which is a somewhat moderate range compared to many other games.

The max bet might be a bit too slim for high rollers, but most regular players should have no trouble with it. Next, you can check out the game’s paytable via the hamburger menu up in the right corner. You can read a brief description of the bonus features here, and check out how much each symbol combination pays.

Keep in mind that Red Tiger operates with a static paytable, which means that the respective symbol values do not update according to your chosen bet level. To find out how much each combination pays per total stake, you must divide the paytable values by the number of paylines (which is 20 in this case). The highest paying regular symbol is the red-ribbon diamond, and it pays 8x for 6 on a payline.

You can now set up the autoplay feature, unless you’re old school enough to prefer to spin the reels manually. You can set up between 10 and 100 autospins, and you also need to set a loss limit before you can start the autospins. You can also stop the autospins when the bonus round is triggered, or when you win a certain amount.

Finally, we recommend you turn on the turbo spins feature (right next to the spin button), if you prefer a higher pace when you play.

Where to play Crystal Mirror?

As we write this review, we don’t really know how many casinos that carry Crystal Mirror slot yet. The wide release has not come about just yet, and our scan of the market can therefore not return any results. That being said, we know that Red Tiger is a very popular developer amongst operators, and you’ll usually be able to play any new release from them in more than a hundred different casinos.

Play for real money

Not all players need to try the game before they feel comfortable betting real money. If you have experience from the casino world, and you’ve played a lot of slots, you can probably gauge from this review (and the stats and math model) whether this game is for you, or not. If this sounds like you, then you can follow the link to the top of this page. Here we list up all the casinos our scan returns that carry this game in their lobby. Pick and choose a nice welcome offer to get started with Crystal Mirror slot immediately.

Play free demo version

The mirrored gameplay is somewhat unusual, although it’s not really all that complicated to understand how it works. Still, it’s totally understandable if you prefer to try the free demo version of the game first, before you get started with the real thing. For this very reason, we have the free game installed at the very top of this page. Simply follow the link up there, and you can try Crystal Mirror for free right away.

The 200 Spins Crystal Mirror Experience

Mirror, mirror on the screen, who’s a lean, mean winning machine. That would be us, hopefully, and we really looked forward to our 200 spins session of this somewhat innovative Red Tiger title. The mirroring feature is interesting enough by itself, but we were also really hoping to trigger the bonus round in our session.

The volatility is high in this game, so we did expect - and got - a lot of dead spins and measly wins in the base game. This went on for a while at least, until we suddenly almost filled the screen with the second lowest value crown symbol. We were only 2 reel positions short of landing a full screen, but we still won a solid 41.4x our stake.

Not a bad start at all, and it proves that the base game is also capable of dishing out decent wins here. We usually talk about how “oddly satisfying” the gameplay is, and Crystal Mirror would be a solid 6.5 on this unofficial scale (where 1 makes your stomach turn and 10 makes you almost indifferent to wins and losses). The spinning tune is hypnotic enough, and the flow is not broken up by any annoying pauses or hiccups.

Anyway, our base game luck seemed to have turned for a while, as we kept landing dead spins and smaller wins only. Out of the blue we suddenly landed 6 scatters on the reels, and our heart skipped a beat as we realised this meant 15 juicy free spins. Not much happened with our initial bonus round spins however, and we thought our base game luck (or lack thereof) had followed us in here too.

Things changed once we landed the stacked wild on reels 1 and 6, and they both nudged nicely into place like the most natural thing in the world. It took a few spins until we filled the remaining non-wild reels with the lower value heart symbol, and this landed us a okay win of 20x our stake. Towards the end we almost filled the remaining reels 2, 3, 4 and 5 with nothing but the highest value symbol, and this gave us a “super win” of 66x our stake.

All in all, we got away with an okay haul of 91.1x our stake, and the session gave us a pretty positive first impression of this game. We can only wish you the best of luck with your first spins on this game, and beginner’s luck is not to be underestimated (even though ours was of a moderate nature).

Review Summary

Red Tiger has become quite adept at creating interesting games and unique concepts, and Crystal Mirror offers simple fun that will keep you entertained for a good while. The reel mirroring feature is perhaps not earth-shaking, but it adds extra fun to the base game, as well as to the bonus round. The latter is the natural climax here, and the stacked sticky wilds can really wreak havoc on the reels when they land.

The 5,240x potential must be total winnings from said bonus round as far as we can gather, as filling the screen with the highest paying symbol (the wild) will “only” pay out 500x your stake. The mirror concept creates the illusion of bigger wins being possible at all times, and this is a nice motivator to keep you going.

Since the defining feature in this game is the synchronizing reels, we will use this as our main criteria for our recommendations. The themes of the games below might vary, but we’ve done our best to pick out some solid games for you here. Follow the respective links to find out more, and you can also try out the free demo version of each game, if you so desire.

Agent Destiny - comes with very nice retro comic-book visuals, and a solid 5,000x max win potential. You’re in for Play’n Go high volatility here, which is usually hardcore, and you’ll benefit from massive symbols, as well as linked reels both in the base game and during the bonus round. The latter comes with synced reels on every spin, which can turn into big winners.

Lock A Luck - is a classic looking game that comes with locked reels on every spin. What’s more, the synced reels will sometimes expand to 3 or more reels, and filling the screen with matching symbols is possible this way. You can win up to 1,333x your stake in this medium volatile game, and it’s a charming title for people who enjoy reel sync magic.

Twin Spin Deluxe - is the follow-up to NetEnt’s classic hit game, and it comes with 6 reels, 5 rows and a cluster pays engine. The synced twin reels you land will sometimes expand, and can fill the entire screen if you’re lucky. The volatility is medium here, and you can win up to 1,000x your stake. Just like the original, there is no bonus round, and it’s all about the synced reels action.
