Funk Master Slot Review, Demo Play, Payout, Free Spins & Bonuses

Funk Master is a volatile 70s-inspired disco slot from NetEnt, and it plays out on a 8x8 cluster pays grid with Avalanche wins. Dancing Wilds remain active in different positions when part of a win, and a 2x2 Hotspot generates dancing wilds when unlocked by winning clusters. You get 3 dancing wilds in the bonus round, as well as a 3x3 Hotspot that spawns 2 wilds and adds rows. This can lead to 3,337x payouts, and our full review is available below the free demo game.

Funk Master Review

We just received a call from the 70s, and they’re apparently running out of disco balls. NetEnt’s Funk Master is probably to blame, as there is an overload of these shiny funky objects in this game like we’ve never seen before. The 8x8 cluster pays grid is where the Dancing Wilds get groovy with it, sticking around for indefinite Avalanche wins as long as they get to contribute. This eventually leads to the bonus round, where everything is taken up a notch.

The Dancing Wild Hotspot is key to triggering the feature, as it spawns an extra Dancing Wild when all 4 positions are unlocked by winning symbols. The visuals tend to get a bit too monotonic after a while though, and you might need a pair of shades to keep your cool. Multiplier symbols are your best bet for larger payouts, and the bonus round involves reel expansion and plenty of dancing wilds for payouts up to 3,337x your stake.

Funk Master Slot Features

All winning clusters are removed via the Avalanche mechanic, and new and/or existing symbols will then drop down to fill the gaps. This process repeats indefinitely as long as you keep winning, and the wild symbol steps in for regular pay symbols to help complete wins in different ways we’ll cover below.

The Dancing Wilds appear both in the base game and during the bonus round, and they remain in play when part of a winning cluster.

Funk Master Slot Gameplay

The dancing wilds move to an adjacent empty position as the regular winning symbols are removed, and this will potentially assist you in prolonging the winning streak.

The Dancing Wild Hotspot is a 2x2-size highlighted square that’s randomly positioned for each spin, and you unlock Hotspots by landing winning combos in this square. When all 4 positions have been unlocked in the same cascading sequence, a single Dancing Wild is spawned. All Hotspot positions become locked again as each new spin starts in the base game.

The Multiplier Symbols can also appear in both the base game and the bonus round, and they come with multiplier values of x2, x3, x5 or x10. The multiplier will boost the current win, and landing more than one multiplier symbol sums up their respective values before being applied to the win.

The Bonus Round triggers when you have 3+ Dancing Wilds going at the same time, and this gives you 6 free spins as the cascading sequence ends. The triggering Dancing Wilds remain in play for the duration of the feature, and the Dancing Wild Hotspot increases to size 3x3.

You now get +2 extra Dancing Wilds added to the mix if all 9 Hotspot positions are unlocked, in addition to +1 extra row up added up to a maximum of 12.

If you’re itching to sink your teeth into the main dish as soon as possible, non-UK players, and anyone eligible, can take advantage of the Bonus Buy option. This will set you back 125x your stake, and it guarantees 6 free spins. The bonus round triggers organically only once in 397 spins on average, making the buy option shortcut even more tempting.

Review Summary

NetEnt has created an enjoyable 70s-inspired slot with Funk Master, but the game kind of lacks personality due to overdose of disco balls and the superficial and glossy visuals. There is no lead character to focus on either, like in their previous Disco Danny, and the math model is not all that impressive compared to Jammin’ Jars 2, which is an obvious competitor. A 3,337x potential worked when NetEnt was king back in the day, but things have changed.

The features are enjoyable to a certain extent, but there isn’t anything really new to see here. You get dancing wilds in different ways, and as these prolong winning streaks you’ll hopefully rack up a few multiplier symbols to boost the total win. Everything is enhanced in the bonus round, of course, as the grid expands as ever-more dancing wilds come into play, but overall Funk Master failed to rock our world as much as it could have with a tad more heart and soul poured into the production.

Pros

  • Dancing Wilds remain in play if part of win
  • 2x2 Hotspot dancing wild unlocking system
  • Multiplier symbols up to x10 (can combine)
  • FS w/ 3 dancing wilds, 3x3 hotspot and expanding grid
  • 125x Bonus Buy (not for UK players)

Cons

  • The 3,337x potential is a tad low for this volatility
  • Beware of adjustable RTP ranges
  • Low bonus round frequency of 1 in 397

If you enjoy Funk Master Slot you should also try:

Disco Danny - is a previous 70s inspired release from NetEnt, and it’s a much simpler game that plays out on a 3x3 grid with 5 betlines.

Golden disco balls award prizes, and the bonus round is all about leveling up to get multipliers. There are 5 levels with up to an x10 multiplier, and you can win up to 3,000x your stake.

Jammin’ Jars 2 - is the funky and colorful sequel to Push Gaming’s smash hit original, and it comes with an 8x8 cluster pays grid. You can upgrade the RTP by collecting vinyls, and the progressive multiplier wild jars are going strong as usual. The Giga Spins feature is the big highlight, and you can win up to 50,000x your stake.

Fruit Disco - is an 8x8 cluster pays grid slot from Evoplay, and it’s filled with neon-colored fruit symbols. You’ll benefit from an innovative Dance Pattern feature, in which winning clusters create a pattern where more symbols are spawned to potentially improve the win. Sticky wilds can enhance this feature, and you can win up to 3,840x your stake.

Banging tunes are a key draw, well, toe-tapping tunes at least, so are the bright lights and the feel-good party time vibe. Funk Master has bottled all of this. It barely surpasses the industry average of 96%, but it is more than good enough to try the game.
